New Year’s Eve is usually spent in my PJs watching the fireworks on the telly and going to bed at 12.01am. So when Amy and Owen asked me to shoot their New Year’s Eve wedding I thought ooh, an excuse not to be on the sofa! A party to attend! I was very excited. Even more so because it was in Wales and I love a good road trip to far flung places.
The wedding took place at Craig Y Nos castle (of Most Haunted fame – I watched the episode in bed in my bnb the night before). The day was foggy, drizzly and typically Decembery (which I secretly love, ok maybe not so secretly, winter weddings are the best).
The wedding was Alice in Wonderland themed, with personal decorations on each table, themed around things they love, from Star Wars to Mario Kart to dinosaurs. They had a quiz after dinner to see who knew them best (the parent table didn’t win!), followed by games and dancing, and a confetti-filled countdown to midnight.
Nana was by far the most glam lady in attendance, and Amy wore the Welsh flag down the aisle to surprise Owen – look at his reaction! It was amazing. Apparently he was thinking of wearing a welsh flag as a surprise as well but decided not to at the last minute – that would have been amazing!
I was thrilled that it was drizzling during the evening so we could go outside and get some gorgeous rain photos, and the evening was finished off by putting my camera down and dancing my heart out till the lights came on and my feet felt like I’d been walking on hot needles.
I loved shooting this wedding and felt privileged to share such a momentous occasion (wedding and NYE!) with this awesome pair. More New Year’s Eve weddings please – save me from my sofa!
“I hate having my picture taken and knew I would never look back at an awkward posed pic – which made picking Anna as our wedding photographer easy. She’s a creative picture ninja and captured the love and joy in the room effortlessly, with us barely noticing it was happening. She made drizzle look like winter magic and spotted some hilarious moments that we’d have otherwise missed. One of the few decisions we had to make that caused no stress at all – she even traveled all the way to deepest Wales to do it.” Amy + Owen
